The National Glass Centre holds a Civil Wedding License allowing
Wedding Ceremonies to take place in the Pod.
The
Pod
The
Pod has breathtaking views of the river Wear
providing the Bride and Groom and Wedding Guests with a unique
and unforgettable experience. It seats 50 guests comfortably
and is available every day from 9am. Wedding Parties are able
to decorate the Pod with floral arrangements and have the
room set out to suit their requirements. To
enhance wedding ceremonies the National Glass Centres Foyer
or Mezzanine Gallery can be used for live entertainment and
refreshments for example: A steel band/string quartet/jazz
band playing in the foyer to meet and greet guests as they
arrive. Drinks and/or canapes served on the Mezzanine Gallery
before and after the Wedding Ceremony. The fee to hire the
Pod is £50 per hour, with ceremonies normally lasting
approximately one hour.
Wedding Receptions
Throwingstones
restaurant is situated on the ground floor of the National
Glass Centre, boasting superb riverside views and a relaxing
ambience to match the unique nature of the centre. Available
exclusively to the wedding party every day from 5pm til late,
or from 2.30pm every day with the understanding that part
of the restaurant will be sectioned off for visitors to the
National Glass Centre to use. Throwingstones can seat 110
guests and the Bride and Groom can choose either a four-course
meal or buffet, (a sample of the cuisine-style food available
is show below)
children's
meals are also available upon request. The restaurant can
be decorated with floral displays or balloons and layout will
be to the Bride and Grooms requirements.

Starters
Wild
mushroom dumplings with tarragon, white wine and cream sauce.
Pan fried scallops with langoustine risotto and parmesan.
Mains
Chargrilled lambs loin with roasted garlic polenta, asparagus
and a tomato and parmesan dressing.
Baked camembert with roasted aubergine, courgette and peppers
with honey and pink peppercorn dressing.
Desserts
Lemon tart with creme fraiche.
Chocolate and ricotta tart with a lemon cream.
Evening
Entertainment
With
a fully licensed bar and a live music license, evening receptions
can range from having a live band, disco, or even a small
scale firework display where guests can watch from the Glass
Roof as the fireworks drift over the River Wear. Catering
can be provided during the evening with a choice of canapes,
light snacks or a buffet.
Bridal
Registry Service
The
Bride and Groom have the opportunity to register part or all
of their Wedding List with the
Glass Shop at the National Glass Centre. The Glass Shop offers
the most extensive range of British studio glassware in the
country, including pieces made on the premises by local skilled
artists. The Bride and Groom could even commission a one-off
masterpiece to commemorate their special day by having it
dated and signed by the artists as a lasting memory.
